With Christmas just around the corner, I was wondering if anyone had any good book recommendations for boy and girl teenagers.

Thanks!

Great idea. I'd love to hear of some new titles as well. As an early teen, I enjoyed Captain From Castile by Samuel Shellabarger. I also read Watership Down by Richard Adams more than once. There are many more titles, but most are probably well-known. My younger siblings have been reading a lot of Andrew Peterson lately (with titles such as On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness: Adventure. Peril. Lost Jewels. And the Fearsome Toothy Cows of Skree). Although I have not looked it over myself, I've heard good things about the list in Honey for a Teen's Heart by Gladys Hunt and Barbara Hampton.
I asked my two late-teen siblings (girl and boy) about their favorite Christian living books, and they gave me this list. Several of these they have read more than once. (I've enjoyed most of these myself as well.)
"The Weight of Glory of Glory" by C.S. Lewis (essay that works well out loud)
Cross Centered Life by C.J. Mahaney (short and works well out loud)
With Christ in the School of Prayer by Andrew Murray
Desiring God and The Fruitful Life by Jerry Bridges
Don’t Waste Your Life by John Piper
The book Do Hard Things: A Teenage Rebellion Against Low Expectations, by Alex and Brett Harris - http://www.therebelution.com/books/

This is on the more serious side focusing on Christian living for teens and young adults.

I picked up the book because of my experiences with teaching at HACC. Even though it is written by two brothers, the young people they highlight in the back of the book is inspiring for any gender.

Far from the Madding Crowd - Hardy

Youth - Conrad (for boys) this is a short novel

I also recommend Watership Down. It is my fav book and I've read it at least a dozen times.

Inkheart by Cornelia Funke is recomended.

Brothers Grimm is my fav set of fairy tales.

Of Human Bondage by Maugham is always a piece of great literature.

The Chronicles of Amber is a great sci-fi masterpiece if you are looking for some amazing but mature sci-fi and if Game of Thrones is anything like the TV show, I would also recommend that book.  The last two recommendations are for more adult readers though...

Yes, it's almost the first year anniversary of this discussion topic from Chip, and it's that time of year again for gift-planning. It would be great to see a fresh set of recommendations for young readers (or just those young at heart).
Our family loves the Horatio Alger Jr. books.  They were hard to find when I was a teenager, so when my brothers and I were able to track one down, we'd devour it.  Now, because of the ipad, kindle, and nook, they're available free!  They are all stories depicting youths with strong moral character and integrity, along with some dastardly villains who receive their just reward too.   Three books that I would highly recommend are James Bradley's Flags of our Fathers, Hampton Sides's Ghost Soldiers, and Diet Eman's Things We Couldn't Say. These all are true stories of individual bravery and heroism from WWII... that I couldn't put down.
