Student Summary:
A growing number of American citizens are training in combat to resist the government if necessary. The more aggressive anti-government rhetoric of part of this movement has given rise to both groups planning a war against the police and the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing. Though actions of this type are horrendous, they are not an accurate representative of the majority of militias, and the defensive, non-aggressive training for resistance is in keeping with the constitution and the founding fathers’ hopes of a country immune to tyranny through the citizens’ strength of arms. The founding fathers intended an armed populace to be an integral part of society in both protecting itself from any government tyranny that might arise and in threats which the government cannot, or will not, address.
