Student Summary:
The United States government permits intelligence gathering tactics that are not in accordance with civil rights as defined by the Constitution of the United States. For example, the USA PATRIOT Act of 2001 allows wiretapping devices to be employed without warrants- a clear breaking of Fourth Amendment. Additionally, suspects under surveillance no longer must be committing or about to commit a crime; merely if the suspect is a person of interest, even without known criminal ties, they may be watched according to the PATRIOT Act. Because of many instances of domestic spying occurring, U.S. citizens should be educated as to the practices of the CIA and FBI and be willing to reclaim civil rights that have been forgotten in the past.
