Don't worry about sharing or saying the wrong thing on Classical U. Although CCA takes an institutional position on some topics (and believes that God's absolute truth touches all matters), individual members of the community can support the school while tackling any issue with respect (and even humor). No earnest question or idea is offensive or off topic. Help Classical U to serve our whole community for the sake of our students.

Our Purpose

Covenant Christian Academy's administration desires to maintain and develop this resource as an avenue for substantive involvement in the life of the school, providing a hub for parents and teachers to share and learn in six subject areas that are central to our mission and unique identity as a school. We wish to be characterized as a place where students thrive under parents and teachers who enjoy an abundance of forthright, humble, earnest and charming communications.

Our vision and methods as a classical Christian school are not always familiar or intuitive to us as contemporary Americans. All of us need to maintain the attitude of students and deliberately cultivate a community of lifelong learners. Pursuing excellence in the liberal arts, benefiting from earnest discussion on hard topics and training ourselves to enjoy fine painting or music all require a certain amount of uphill climbing in a society that values easy entertainment and fast food. And there are valid concerns and dangers involved in the efforts by contemporary Christian educators to restore and rebuild school communities that rest upon classical principles. Instruction can become stiff, dull or out of touch. Students can be pushed too hard. School communications and goals can be infected by elitism and arrogance.

Classical U is an initiative designed to help every sector of our school community grow in our understanding and appreciation for the positive benefits of our classical approach while also counteracting the potential problems. By speaking honestly and openly about our hopes and concerns, by participating together in school events and by reading and discussing insightful books and articles, we hope that parents, teachers and students will grow and sharpen each other’s appreciation for and implementation of CCA’s unique classical identity.

Anyone is invited to share material on Classical U. CCA's administration is always looking for fresh ways to improve this resource. Please post ideas here or contact any administrator directly. In addition to the three-tiered curriculum, blog and various resource lists, Classical U provides several flexible features that allow members to take creative initiative. Any member can post new media, create forums, start groups and organize out-of-school events or clubs with other families. We hope to see this resource facilitate communications and projects that involve and bless parents and students throughout our broader community.
