Thoughts on the Senior Thesis Project, Pt. 3

"...If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. ... For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be…See More

Thoughts on the Senior Thesis Project, Pt. 1

I wrote a post here a few weeks back to announce the dates for our annual Senior Thesis Day, and added a brief note that I would spend a bit of time talking about the Senior Thesis project and what it means for our school. In putting my thoughts together, I realized I would have a hard time explaining the thesis…See More

Mark your calendars...

The end of the school year approaches quickly. As in years past, our seniors have been hard at work crafting their thesis papers, and will soon begin adapting those papers into presentations. This task, one that is difficult but fruitful, will culminate in two events at the end of the school year. The first is our annual Senior Thesis Day, which, contrary to its name, will take place during both the 8th and 9th of May on the school grounds. We have a total of ten students presenting, and the…See More

Caring

Because these wings are no longer wings to fly But merely vans to beat the air The air which is now thoroughly small and drySmaller and dryer than the willTeach us to care and not to careTeach us to sit still. ~T.S. Eliot, Ash Wednesday Eliot is one of my favorite poets. His poetry is often bleak, but seems always to intimate some faint hope. Early in his career, this hope is a shrug of the shoulders, a hope along the lines of "at least a century from now, I'll be gone and none of this will…See More

John Piper Thinks

Here's a quick reading recommendation, in case of travel plans during spring break: Think: The Life of the Mind and the Love of God, by John Piper, makes a case for the use of our minds in the pursuit of God. Piper confronts certain biblical passages that are sometimes used to deny the importance of the intellect in the Christian faith, and describes how careful observation and understanding of God's word lead to better appreciation of Him in worship. He also spends some time considering…See More
