    I am often asked where to start when considering The Great Books and The Great Ideas that Mortimer Adler was so influential in bringing to Classical education. I usually ask a few follow-up questions to determine where the person is in their journey. More often than not, I encourage folks to start, not with an Alder essay, but with a Robert Hutchins essay. Hutchins and Adler had an amazing friendship that was mutually beneficial with their engagement with The Great Tradition. The essay by Robert M. Hutchins is The Great Tradition: The Substance of a Liberal Education.
