Monique Neal
Monique Neal lives in Richmond, Virginia with her husband and homeschools their four children. She graduated from the CiRCE Teaching Apprenticeship Program in 2021. She is fluent in modern Greek and modern Greek Cypriot and has pursued studies in ancient Greek as a living language under various mentors including completing the course of study in ancient Greek at Accademia Vivarium Novum in Italy.

Ponder with author Paul Kortepeter why rhetorical training is still vital in our information-saturated world. Follow the ancient path of rhetoric where reading and imitation are foundations to writing, and where writing naturally leads to rhetoric. Writing & Rhetoric taps into an ancient art that moves us beyond a chatbot world to imitating and emulating the great authors.
Paul Kortepeter, author of Writing and Rhetoric from Classical Academic Press shares experience and wisdom in the classroom and guiding our students in modeling the examples of rhetoricians throughout history!
Paul Kortepeter
Paul Kortepeter’s varied career includes movie development, teaching and publishing. While a master’s student at USC’s film school, he edited a documentary movie on the homeless that was nominated for an Academy Award. He spent the next six years in Los Angeles developing made-for-TV movies. More recently, he worked as senior editor for Sunrise Publications, where he met artist Susan Wheeler. The two collaborated in creating picture books for Dutton Children’s Books and gift books for Harvest House Publishers. Paul helped to found The Oaks Academy, a private classical school of 1200 students in Indianapolis, where he currently serves as Curriculum Director.

Encounter the West African Griot storytelling tradition and listen as Dr. Anika Prather imparts this rich cultural experience and the formative value of hearing these oral narratives with students in the home or classroom. Participants will also learn of Dr. Prather’s forthcoming audio recordings where she shares from this heritage directly with students.
Dr. Anika Prather
Dr. Anika T. Prather earned her B.A. from Howard University in elementary education as well as a Masters in liberal arts from St. John’s College (Annapolis) and a PhD in English, Theatre, and Literacy Education from the University of Maryland (College Park). Her research focus is on building literacy with African American students through engagement in the books of the Canon. She self-published her book Living in the Constellation of the Canon: The Lived Experiences of African American Students Reading Great Books Literature. She has served as a teacher, supervisor for student teachers, director of education, head of school, and a professor in the Classics Department at Howard University. With her husband Damon, she founded The Living Water School, located in southern Maryland and attended by their three children. Anika is a popular speaker and has shared about classical Christian education with audiences at many organizations, including Great Hearts Academies, the Society for Classical Learning, St. John’s College, and the Classic Learning Test.
