David V. Hicks is a graduate of Princeton University and an Oxford Rhodes Scholar who published Norms and Nobility: A Treatise on Education in 1981 as well as multiple books since then including a widely read translation of Marcus Aurelius with his brother C. Scot Hicks. Watch for his new book The Stones Cry Out in the fall of 2024 as well as an audio book version of Norms and Nobility both published by Classical Academic Press.
This author commentary course on ClassicalU with David Hicks features interviews with David and his wife Betsy recorded in their Montana home. David answers questions about his work in education, his thoughts on the renewal of classical education today, what makes a great teacher, his work as an author, and more. With Betsy, they also share about their work building a Palladian classical home together and their dreams for the land surrounding their home to be used by the Church for the founding of a monastery (that they have already started to build with help from young people during Church retreats).
David’s experiences with education also include publishing multiple translations of Plutarch with his brother through the CiRCE Institute. He has served as Chief Academic Officer for the Meritas Family of Schools, and on multiple boards including as vice chairman of the TASIS Foundation board in Switzerland.
Please note: This course is part of an author commentary series where we invite authors to reflect on topics of interest to classical educators. The views expressed in the content is solely that of the author and do not represent the opinions or positions of Classical Academic Press or ClassicalU.
