Teaching Medieval History: The Age of Light, with Dr. Junius Johnson, illuminates the true genius of the Middle Ages, challenging common myths and uncovering the rich complexity of this pivotal period. Through a series of engaging lectures, Dr. Johnson explores various aspects of medieval society as it was lived in town, city and church:  from their cosmological and political views to the intricacies of faith, family, and feudalism. The course also highlights the significant technological and scientific advancements of the era, providing a fresh perspective on medieval contributions to modern society.

Dr. Junius Johnson–an independent scholar trained in philosophy, historical theology, and classical and medieval literature–brings his extensive knowledge and passion for the subject to each lesson. With advanced degrees from Yale Divinity School and Yale University, and years of teaching experience in diverse high school and university settings, Dr. Johnson offers educators a better understanding of the theology, science, culture, and battles that shaped European history during this enlightened age.

Dr. Johnson is also a translator and contributing writer for our forthcoming volumes Humanitas: Early Middle Ages and Humanitas: Later Middle Ages. Teachers can apply what they learn in this ClassicalU course as they guide students through the primary sources in these next volumes from our Humanitas series.
