    Getting students to read outside of class

    I am starting my third year teaching literature and am wondering if any of you have ideas on how to encourage students to not only read every word of the books we are reading in class, but encouraging them to read the classics outside of class as well. The system we’ve used has not worked, but I don’t want to give up on asking them to read additional books. What do you all do. I teach 9-12 grades.
