Brief Bio

The Northman: Vikings, betrayal and demented images in the impressive trailer

After “The Witch” and “The Lighthouse”, Robert Eggers is about to hit even harder with “The Northman“, whose trailer promises an insane spectacle.

In 2022, the Vikings will land in force! February 25 on Netflix first, with Valhalla, spin-off of the series devoted to Ragnar and Lagertha. Then on May 18 at the cinema, thanks to Robert Eggers and The Northman.

After The Witch and The Lighthouse, the American director is abandoning the horror that had allowed him to make himself known. But his taste for striking images is intact, if we rely on the impressive trailer that has been unveiled. As an early Christmas gift for lovers of epic and brutal cinema.

With a cast that brings together regulars from his world (Willem Dafoe, Anya Taylor-Joy, Kate Dickie) as well as newcomers (Nicole Kidman, Alexander Skarsgard, Ethan Hawke and even Björk), the filmmaker composes a story of revenge in 10th century Iceland. And the result promises to be as barbaric as it is sublime.

As the end of the year is fast approaching, The Northman should gain a few places in the public’s biggest expectations for 2022. And why not take a detour to the Croisette, on the occasion of the 75th Cannes Film Festival, which will be held from May 17 to 28?

Robert Eggers has already distinguished himself there with The Lighthouse, presented at the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs in 2019. Will he be entitled to the official selection (in the Midnight Screening?), or even the Competition next year?
