- Globalization/disembedding challenge: Take an inventory of the products that make up your everyday life. For example, look at the food in your refrigerator and pantry, or the labels on your clothing. How does the amount of local products and items compare to those that are a part of the world’s global economy? Now, take some time to investigate the companies behind your products, items and clothing. What are some of their policies, methods, or ethics of operation? How do they rate on Fair Trade Certified, for example? Do these products help or hinder your local community? Do they preserve or dislodge any traditions or customs tied to your area? Take some time to consider your purchasing power and impact on your local community and its traditions or customs, as well as the impact you have as part of a globalized market.
